Reasons Why Your Galaxy S24 May Keep Rebooting After an Update

There are a few common culprits that can trigger constant rebooting behavior after updating your S24:

  • Buggy Update – Sometimes an update itself contains bugs that create system instability and cause frequent crashes or reboots.
  • App Conflicts – An update may not jive well with apps you have installed, particularly third-party apps. Conflicts can lead to reboot loops.
  • Improper Update Installation – If an update failed to install properly, it can corrupt key system files, leading to reboots.
  • Hardware Issues – Although less common, hardware problems like an aging battery or failing components can also manifest as reboot issues after an update.

Troubleshooting Steps

Before resorting to drastic measures like a factory reset, try these troubleshooting steps first to stop your Galaxy S24 from rebooting constantly:

  1. Restart Your Phone – A simple restart is sometimes all you need to stop annoying reboots. Press and hold the Power button for 7-8 seconds until powered off. Then turn your S24 back on and see if it fixed the issue.
  2. Boot into Safe Mode – Safe mode loads only essential apps and services. If the reboots stop in safe mode, then a third party app is likely the culprit.

To enable safe mode:

  • Press & hold the Power button
  • Tap and HOLD the Power off option
  • Tap OK to confirm

Your phone will now only have default apps running. See if the random restarts persist.

  1. Reset App Preferences – This clears any erroneous app preference settings that may be causing conflicts. Go to Settings > Apps > Tap the 3-dot menu > Reset app preferences.
  2. Clear Cache Partition – Wipe cached data that may be damaged or corrupt by booting into Recovery Mode:
  • Turn off your Galaxy S24
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power button
  • Use the volume down key to highlight ‘Wipe cache partition’ and power button to select it
  • Select ‘Reboot system now’ option
  1. Factory Data Reset – If all else fails, backup your data and perform a factory reset. This will erase all data and restore your S24 to default settings.

To factory reset:

  • Go to Settings
  • Tap General management
  • Select Reset
  • Tap Factory data reset
  • Choose Reset and confirm

This should resolve any software issues causing the reboots. Restore apps one by one to isolate any problematic apps.

Hardware vs Software Issues

If you’ve tried all troubleshooting steps but your S24 still randomly reboots, the issue could be hardware-related.

Defective components like the battery, motherboard, RAM and others can manifest reboot symptoms. Take your phone to a Samsung-authorized service center for inspection and repair if needed.

Preventing Issues with Future Updates

While random reboots after an update are frustrating, there are some best practices you can follow to avoid issues when installing future updates on your Galaxy S24:

  • Backup Data – Always backup your phone data before updating. This protects you in case a factory reset is needed.
  • Research Updates – Check Samsung forums and Reddit before major updates for common issues users report. Hold back on noncritical updates if widespread problems are reported.
  • Update Apps/Restart – Ensure all apps are updated and restart your phone before updating to minimize compatibility issues.
  • Charge Phone – Never update with low battery. Always install updates with 40% battery or higher.

Following these simple practices will help ensure smooth, trouble-free software updates on your S24 going forward. Being cautious saves you headaches.

While an update triggering constant reboots is aggravating, hopefully this guide has equipped you to get your Samsung Galaxy S24 working normally again. Consistently apply the step-by-step troubleshooting tips outlined above to identify and resolve the reboot issues for good.

  1. I have problems with my Samsung s 24 ultra .just brought less than 2 months ago and the phone keeps crashing and the screen is freezing and can’t do anything. I have to turn off the phone and restart. After restart most of the apps and settings are deleted. So i am doung a restore from samsung cloud, but still like this, not all the data and apps are restored. I need to manually install everything back. This is happening like 2,3 times per week. The phone is brand new ,got from O2 store online. Sometimes is just restarting with no reason and happening the same, most of the apps are deleted. I am very disappointed as the latest phone from Samsung. Before of this,i had Samsung s22 ultra and never happened this. A big 👎 . It costs a lot of money and the phone is keep crashing.
