Causes of Overheating in the Galaxy S24

The Galaxy S24 is one of the most powerful Android phones available today. However, its sophisticated hardware can sometimes overwork itself and overheat, especially when:

  • Using resource-intensive apps like 3D games, video streaming, AR apps
  • Fast charging or wireless charging methods
  • Poor ventilation due to thick phone cases or blocked air vents
  • Defective battery or other faulty hardware components
  • Warm environmental temperatures or direct sunlight exposure

The main culprits are the CPU and GPU having to work excessively hard. Other factors like direct sunlight, faulty batteries, and lack of heat dissipation also build up excess heat.

Solutions and Tips to Fix Overheating

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to cool down your overheated Galaxy S24:

  • Close all running apps and let the phone rest for a few minutes. This allows the internals to cool off.
  • Lower the screen brightness to reduce energy consumption and load on the GPU.
  • Turn off unwanted background processes like Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, etc.
  • Avoid using fast charging methods and remove any thick or non-breathable phone cases.
  • Update your phone’s apps and software to the latest optimized versions.
  • Turn on Airplane mode temporarily to check if overheating stops. This can isolate if a communication function is the culprit.
  • Carefully clean the phone’s ports and air vents to clear out any dust buildup which can trap heat.
  • Check if your battery may need replacement due to swelling or damage, which reduces its heat resistance.
  • Perform a factory reset if you suspect some software glitches are causing abnormal heating.
  • Contact Samsung support if heating still persists after trying all solutions, for hardware diagnosis.

Long-term Prevention Tips

  • Avoid leaving your phone plugged in charging overnight or unattended for a long time.
  • Prevent prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, such as leaving it in a hot car.
  • Consider a phone cooling fan attachment or heat dissipation phone case.
  • Limit gaming and video streaming sessions to shorter durations with breaks in between.
  • Use Samsung’s Device Care to set the CPU and GPU to power saving modes.

  1. Samsung has had this problem in every single phone since I owned my first S3.

It is about time that 1) they provide chargers with these expensive phones that are certified and shut off when the battery is charged, 2) provide proper cases for these $2500 phones if heat buildup is an issue, and 3) ensure that the software that we load has been tested to not cause this issue.

Frankly I am tires of spending a ton of money on a phone to have this problem contactly happen.

The factory reset solution is a horrid one. Find something else.
